Jobseekers:
Please go to www.linkedin.com Search for groups; type wemenX
and apply to be a member. You will have access to a list of open positions with
companies who are ACTIVELY hiring.
Jobs are being presented to us by your fellow
parishioners directly or through their HR departments.
Employers: Please email the parish office ndparish@aol.com or rkilcoyne@cmkselect.com your jobs will be posted on the wemenX group site at no cost. The site will be populated
with new JOB opening weekly by the wemenX members of
each parish as we receive them.
Progress being made!
In addition to the efforts being made by wemenX volunteers, we are fortunate to have identified a
number of additional sources who have offered to assist our parishioners. The Job Seekers of Montclair generously
invited our parishioners, to attend their 12 week program aimed at counseling
and coaching job seekers, which has proven to be extremely effective and
successful. Additionally, the head of
the Job Seekers of St. Cassian, now a member of wemenX, in Upper Montclair has been providing job leads to
those who are in need for over 10 years.
He has generously offered to share those leads which will be posted
shortly on the LinkedIn wemenX group site.
We are asking for volunteers to assist with our
Program/Event Coordination, Seniors Employment Network, Resume Review and
Networking Committees. Please contact
the parish office or write to Rick Kilcoyne: rkilcoyne@cmkselect.com

Resume/Profile-Quick Tips:
·
Keep the resume brief but factual. Your resume is a living
document. Modify the positioning of the information that you want the reader to
see first as they give your resume the 30 second scan.
·
Add your personal interest at the bottom (this is sometimes the
icebreaker on the interview, and sometimes the reason the select you when their
response is plentiful).
·
Research who to send your resume to in the department that is
hiring. (use the web tools ie
LinkedIn, to find them).
·
Network to find people who know people at the target employer,
who will offer a reference for you.
·
Follow up with a call to the hiring manager. Ask his or her
assistant for the best time for you to reach them, or to schedule a call.
Networking Tools and Activities:
ü
Research company websites for ‘open jobs’.
ü
Make a list of the top 10, then the second 10 companies that you
would like to work for.
ü
Research their websites, and if positions exist for your
experience, research using www.Linkedin.com who you can contact to introduce yourself and
send a profile or resume.
ü
Use www.indeed.com and other job boards to sign up to have the
system email open jobs to you from their database.
ü
Follow the instructions for finding the hiring manager’s name
and network to find someone who knows you and also the hiring manager.
(LinkedIn is also good for finding common contacts).
Proactively send your
resume (and a brief introductory note) to hiring managers of companies who you
know hires employees with your experience. Not all jobs are listed on company
websites.
Consider taking a ‘temp to perm’ assignment. This seems
to be the trend for companies to get help they need, without having to get a
JOB approved by management. There is a good chance of the position converting
to permanent, if you meet their requirements.
